Friday June 28, 2024 8:45am - 9:45am CDT
Publishing Your Ideas: Let’s Get Started!

Teachers have educational ideas from which other teachers would benefit hearing. Publishing your ideas in a journal (or magazine) is one way to share those ideas. But how do you get started? This session will provide an overview of National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) journals as well as insights and strategies for writing an article. Attention will be given to writing for Mathematics Teacher: Learning & Teaching PK-12 (MTLT), NCTM’s newest practitioner journal.

Friday June 28, 2024 2:15pm - 3:15pm CDT
Teachers that center eliciting and interpreting student thinking communicate adhering to asset-based pedagogical approaches and a belief in their students’ intellectual capabilities. In this session, we explore how student generated drawings can be sources for eliciting and interpreting students’ science thinking. Session participants will look through and analyze student drawings from a previous project, as well as producing and interpreting their own science related drawings. Additionally, this session will include a discussion and brainstorming opportunities for utilizing drawings.
