Promoting Black Male Success in Middle and Secondary Mathematics Classrooms

In this session, participants will hear insights about research-based ways to promote Black male success in middle and secondary mathematics classrooms. They will also hear reflections about this year’s book study, which had an explicit focus on Black male students’ mathematics achievement outcomes via a mathematical brotherhood. In doing so, participants will explore work regarding Black male students and share best practices for teaching mathematics to this population of students well.

AI Tools for STEM Teaching and Learning

Since the release of ChatGPT in November 2022, the world of AI has evolved rapidly to include many additional tools and practices for educators. In this session, we will address the role of AI tools in STEM teaching, including but not limited to classroom management, differentiation, and lesson planning. Participants will have an opportunity to explore various tools specifically curated for educators, or STEM educators and students. Further, we will discuss the ethical and policy implications of integrating AI tools in the classroom.
