Demetrice Smith-Mutegi is an Assistant Professor and MonarchTeach Co-Director in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She teaches K-12 foundation courses and secondary science and math methods to preservice teachers. Dr. Smith-Mutegi's current research interest lies in investigating the motivations, beliefs, and experiences of Black students in STEM, as well as factors that influence Black STEM teachers' career decisions. She has also collaborated actively with researchers in other fields to study how informal STEM learning experiences affect Black girls. She is a co-PI on the Growing Educators of Mathematics and Science Noyce project at ODU.
